Electron–phonon processes of the silicon-vacancy centre in diamond

چکیده
We investigate phonon induced electronic dynamics in the ground and excited states of the negatively charged silicon-vacancy (SiV−) centre in diamond. Optical transition line widths, transition wavelength and excited state lifetimes are measured for the temperature range 4 K–350 K. The ground state orbital relaxation rates are measured using time-resolved fluorescence techniques. A microscopic model of the thermal broadening in the excited and ground states of the SiV− centre is developed. A vibronic process involving single-phonon transitions is found to determine orbital relaxation rates for both the ground and the excited states at cryogenic temperatures. We discuss the implications of our findings for coherence of qubit states in the ground states and propose methods to extend coherence times of SiV− qubits. Submitted to: New J. Coherent control of the silicon-vacancy spin in diamond
Spin impurities in diamond have emerged as a promising building block in a wide range of solid-state-based quantum technologies. The negatively charged silicon-vacancy centre combines the advantages of its high-quality photonic properties with a ground-state electronic spin, which can be read out optically. However, for this spin to be operational as a quantum bit, full quantum control is essen...
متن کاملSuppression of fluorescence phonon sideband from nitrogen vacancy centers in diamond nanocrystals by substrate effect.
Substrates effect is observed on the suppression of the phonon sideband from nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in 50nm diamond nanocrystals at cryogenic temperatures. As a quantitative parameter of the population of phonon sidebands, the Debye-Waller factor is estimated from fluorescence spectra on glass, silicon, and silica-on-silicon substrates. Fluorescence spectra of negatively charged NV cente...

We demonstrate coupling between the zero phonon line (ZPL) of nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond and the modes of optical micro-resonators fabricated in single crystal diamond membranes sitting on a silicon dioxide substrate. A more than ten-fold enhancement of the ZPL is estimated by measuring the modification of the spontaneous emission lifetime. The cavity-coupled ZPL emission was further c...

متن کاملCoupling of silicon-vacancy centers to a single crystal diamond cavity.
Optical coupling of an ensemble of silicon-vacancy (SiV) centers to single-crystal diamond microdisk cavities is demonstrated. The cavities are fabricated from a single-crystal diamond membrane generated by ion implantation and electrochemical liftoff followed by homo-epitaxial overgrowth. Whispering gallery modes spectrally overlap with the zero-phonon line (ZPL) of the SiV centers and exhibit...
